What makes Avicii, 24-year-old Swedish DJ/remixer/producer, a mad genius is he is so much more than than all of this. He’s also a composer, innovator, and has one of the best ears in the business IMHO. Avicii is a huge fan of melody and thinks outside the box. He took a big risk and did what no EDM artist has ever done before. Avicii injected soul and organic instruments into house music on his latest album ‘True’ that dropped this week. He’s revolutionizing the EDM scene and taking it main stream. He’s mashing up genres no one else thought to combine like on the worldwide smash “Wake Me Up” where he mixes Aloe Blacc’s soulful voice with a folk band and house beats.

I’m calling it now just wait y’all. Avicii’s album ‘True’ is going to be one of the biggest if not the biggest album in the next 12 months! It’s full of singles. It’s hard for me to pick just one so go listen to the entire album. I’m going to leave you with this single “Hey Brother” featuring Dan Tyminski, a bluegrass artist that is a member of the band Alison Krauss and Union Station.

For fans of Daft Punk, David Guetta, Moonshine Bandits, Electro Shine and The Avett Brothers. File under House, Folk, Country, EDM, dance and pop.

LYRICS
Hey there, brother, watch your little lady
She’s a little faster than you think
Hey there, brother, watch your little lady
She’ll be sneaking ’round every time you blink

Now I don’t know how she got my number
But she been calling all through the summer
Saying she really need to see the color
Now don’t that make you wonder

Hey there brother, hey there brother

Hey there brother, watch your little momma
She’s a little hand full, yes she is
Hey there brother, watch your little momma
She got herself a hand full, yes she did

Can’t you see you’re getting played you fool
She’s letting everybody take it as cool
All up in the backyard shooting pool
And I don’t mean to sound cruel

But hey there brother, hey there brother

Hey there brother, look what she’s doing to you
Hey there brother, she’s playing you for a fool
Hey there brother, look what she’s doing to you
Hey there brother

Hey there brother, what’s with your girlfriend
She ain’t being loyal, no she ain’t
Hey there brother, what’s with your girlfriend
You should hear the things that she’s been saying

Well the word on the street is that it won’t be long
Before she packs up and moves on
She’s just using you like a comb
Now don’t you think it’s wrong

Hey there brother, hey there brother
Oooh, hey there brother
Look what she’s doing to you
Hey there brother
She’s playing you for a fool
Hey there brother

You may have a new favorite band with Brooklyn indie-pop quintet Lucius. Gorgeous harmonies, soaring melodies, and thought provoking verses with big up-tempo choruses. Debut album ‘Wildewoman’ out Oct. 15 on Mom+Pop Records. Listen to the new single “Tempest”:

LYRICS
We are two ships passing
How long will this last
We haven’t had the time to work it out
Sitting in the backseat
Who knows where our paths meet
And you keep shouting we’ve gotta work it out

You gotta believe me when I say I know
(Gotta work it out, it out)
You aren’t riding on this wave alone
(Gotta work it out, it out)
Gotta believe me when I say I know
(Gotta work it out, it out)
I already know I know I know I know

Yell all that you want to
I’ll yell it right back to you
Back and forth until we’ve tired out
Temper into tempest
Washes off the madness
But we’re still left with figuring shit out

Chorus

The seeds of what you say all beg for reason
Plant them deep so we can disregard them
Been listening to every word you said
You’re just waking up to get back into bed
The seeds of what you say all beg for reason
Plant them deeply so we can release them
Been listening to every word you said
You’re just waking up to get back into bed

You know I’m riding on this wave alone
You know I’m riding on this wave alone
You aren’t riding on this wave alone
I already know I know I know I know
Gotta believe me when I say I know
Already know I know I know I know
Already know I know I know I know

Realities-6-square

Matthew “Cornbread” Compton, member of acclaimed rock duo Electric Guest and active composer and performer for the Black Iris Music Collective, has formed a side project called Realities.

A 4-song self-titled debut EP was released last week featuring collaborations from Luke Top of world music-infused psychedelic pop group Fool’s Gold, Rachel Fannan of rising LA band Only You, Alex Lilly of Touché, and Matt Popieluch of Big Search.

Every song on this EP is a worthy listen but if you only have time for one listen to “Oceans Away”. It has a rockin’ beat with 60’s beachy Raveonette-esque vibe to it that’s so infectious you need to put this song on repeat!
