Edmonton-based artist Lucette just dropped her debut album, Black is the Colorproduced by Dave Cobb. It’s worth mentioning Cobb becuase he’s one of the hottest producers in Americana today having produced albums for Shooter Jennings, Jamey Johnson, Sturgill Simpson, and one of my favorite albums last year Jason Isbell’s Southeastern. Cobb also has a future project with one of the best country singer-songwriters in the biz Chris Stapleton.

So when Cobb decides to producer a newcomer out of Canada you know this lady has got something special! Lucette wrote and recorded her self-titled album in under a month. Her first single “Bobby Reid” showcases melancholic, sultry vocals with a vintage sound that takes you back to the 70s. Another favorite cut of mine is “Poor Sweet Me” featuring gorgeous intertwining male/female harmonies. Overall this album feels decades old but sounds fresh! It’s a must listen.
